Women in retina: challenges and action plans towards gender equality

Although important steps ahead have been made, there are still barriers to break in order to achieve gender equality and unlock the full potential of women in the eye care profession. Retina in particular has been historically a male-dominated subspecialty. However, positive efforts are currently in place to shatter the glass ceiling, raising awareness, offering support towards career development, nurturing women’s talents and aspirations.
