Stela Vujosevic

Stela Vujosevic, MD, PhD, is Head of the Ophthalmology Unit – Medical Retina at San Giuseppe Hospital and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Milan, Italy. She obtained the National Scientific Qualification for Full Professorship in 2020. She earned her medical degree and PhD at the University of Padova, Italy, and completed fellowships in Medical Retina and Reading Centre methodologies at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK.
Professor Vujosevic has established an extensive international research network and is dedicated to advancing and disseminating knowledge on imaging biomarkers, structure–function correlations, quality of life and patient-reported outcome measures, and the application of artificial intelligence in retinal diseases and retinal clinical trials. She has also been actively involved in the education and mentorship of young ophthalmologists in Italy and internationally.
She currently participates in several international working groups and research consortia focused on the development and validation of novel clinical endpoints and the creation of global foundation models for ophthalmic research. She has served as Principal Investigator in numerous national and international clinical trials and research projects.
Professor Vujosevic is a Gold Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO). She is an elected member of the Diabetic Retinopathy Expert Committee of the European Vision Institute Clinical Research Network (EVICR.net), a member of the Macula Society, Co-Chair of the Imaging Subspecialty Section of EURETINA, Vice-President of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes Eye Complications (EASDec), and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Ophthalmological Sciences (SISO).
Her major distinctions include recognition in The Ophthalmologist Power List 2022 as one of the world’s 100 most influential ophthalmologists, inclusion in the Top List of Excellent Women in European Vision Research and Ophthalmology 2021 by the European Vision Institute, and selection for the ARVO Women’s Leadership Development Program. She is also an ARVO Gold Fellow.
Professor Vujosevic serves as Associate Editor of American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports and is a member of the Editorial Boards of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS), JAMA Ophthalmology, RETINA, and Acta Ophthalmologica. She has authored more than 155 peer-reviewed publications and eight book chapters.
